Hello folks!
I am jose, but am known in several games and forums as speedknob, and sometimes even as Speedknob. I am not big on capital letters, other than those used to begin sentences, but I realize that that is odd, and breaks grammatical rules. I love the language and try to follow it's rules in most cases . . . but i digress. 8)
So . . . my first blog post! I suppose that calls for an introduction. First off, though I want to delve into my reasoning for even having a blog.
I read a few blogs, and the one thing that stands out about the ones I truly appreciate is that they are written by common people. The ones that are more extravagant or pretentious just don't appeal to me. So at first I thought, "Who would read a blog I wrote? Why bother?" But then I figured that being an average kinda guy, then perhaps other average kinda people might like it. One thing that is a little different, although certainly not unheard of, is that I am a Christian gamer. I do not preach or quote scripture in-game, or get into the religious debates in zone chats, but for the last ten years it has become a distinct and undeniable facet of my life (for the 30 plus years before that, I thought the whole God thing was pretty crazy too, so I understand many sides of the issue and will not condemn anyone whatever their stance on the issue).
And here's a bit of an introduction:
I am in my mid/upper 40s, have been married for 21 years and have a 17 year old son. I came to Christ about ten years ago, and my wife has always been a believer. We have been ordained as Deacons by the United States Presbytery and are very involved in our church and our community, as well as various mission trips and ministries for the underprivileged.
My son is mainly a console player, though he has an 80 in WoW and has made characters in the games I have played. I was a PnP role-player for years as a kid/young adult, but now find that having a group is very tough, with families and jobs in the way . . . so computer RPG is the next best thing. I have played WoW, AoC, GW, CO, and CoX.
I will stop rambling now . . . but I look forward to delving into this new blog experience. I am considered a bit whacky by the church folk for being a gamer, and am cosidered very whacky by gamers for being a Christian - but I know I am not alone, and look forward to expressing some views and experiences, and hopefully have some constructive dialog.
